Design Philosophy
My design process moves from pencil to paper, and from paper to computer. To make progress, I need to start from scratch: sketching out ideas, finalizing the main idea, and taking it to the computer. After taking the idea to the computer, I digitize my sketches and refine them over time. I often find myself leaning in to how I can use type, color, layout design, and illustration in new ways, whether that is by itself or in context with another subject matter. As a graphic designer, I am continually trying new things and stay searching for inspiration by different artists and art pieces, so that my designs stay fresh and exciting.
When I am working on new graphic design projects, I create for myself as well as the future viewers of my work; moreover, I hope to communicate a thought or feeling beyond the surface level to whoever the viewer may be. The hope is that my work would stir the viewer to further creativity, consider a new idea, or have deeper thoughts than normal, and respond to whatever reflection they may have, in the way they choose. As a graphic designer my work shouldn’t force an idea on the viewer, it should encourage them to think and feel as they will originally.
